Blues boogie on itsway

The Tribune (NZ) - - WHAT'S ON - RICHARD MAYS

If the spring wet weather blues have taken hold, there’s an opportunity to wash them away with a burst of the ‘true blues’.

This Saturday, the Hokowhitu Bowling Club is hosting veteran bluesmusos Shayn ’Hurricane’ Wills and Bullfrog Rata.

The indomitable blues duo armed with guitars and harmonica will be accompanied by drummer Ted Frickleton and bass player ’Gentleman’ George Barris.

Rata and Wills last played together at the venue for the Bob Dylan tribute in May to great acclaim, according to the Bent Horseshoe’s Steve Tolley. ‘‘What a great night that was. ‘‘These are two of the best bluesmen in the country, and backed by a great rhythm section, it’ll be one of the best nights of live blues all year.’’

Come along prepared to boogie to what Tolley said will be the ‘‘ultimate’’ blues show.

‘‘From contemporary to traditional, acoustic to electric, standards to originals this show will have something for everyone.’’

The concert kicks off at 7.30pm this Saturday at the Hokowhitu Bowling Club on Albert St.

Entry is $20. Bookings on 027 368 2367 or steve@benthorseshoe.co.nz

Blues icon Shayn ‘Hurricane’ Wills will be performing with Bullfrog Rata and band at the Hokowhitu Bowling Club.
