Globe gets a revamp
Following a city council grant - and years of planning, fundraising and preparation - the Globe Theatre Trust is pleased to report its long-awaited bar/kitchen area is nearing completion.
Through the latter half of September, construction work took place at a feverish pitch in the Globe Lounge. Old walls were knocked down, new walls put up and painted, shelves and cupboards installed and a brand new bar put in place.
‘‘It’s been great to see it all come together,’’ says relationships manager William Muirhead. ‘‘We were amazed at how much was done in just a few weeks and being able to visualise how it’s going to look completed. It’s really satisfying. I think the Globe Trust Board and all the guys we’ve had working on it have done a brilliant job.’’
The first full season theatrical production to enjoy the new facilities will be Manawatu Theatre Inc’s November-December production of the Ben Elton comedy Silly Cow, starring well-known musician Jennifer Moss.
MTI, which operates the Globe’s bar service, will now be able to serve their anti-pasto platters - and, no doubt, an occasional glass of vino - from the newly extended bar area.
With these improved and increased foyer and lounge/cafe areas, the Globe is now even better placed to host corporate and private functions as well as its traditional theatrical and performing arts events, including ‘‘silly season’’ functions during December.
‘‘For business presentations, seminars and events up to 100 people, the new Globe 2 is an ideal venue,’’ operations manager Roger Buchanan says. ‘‘Many firms and organisations don’t like hiring large spaces where they fill only the front few rows, and we now have the added bonus of being able to provide a comfortable space for refreshments or social gatherings as well.’’
Inquiries are welcomed from the administration team – either by phoning 351-4409 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Ticket bookings for upcoming shows are available at the Globe between 10am-2pm, or online at www.globetheatre.co.nz.
