Feilding business making the most of new opportunities

The Tribune (NZ) - - EXPERIENCE MANAWATU -

Richard and Nicki Baker, owners of Stihl Shop and Hire Feilding, relocated to their present building at 30 Aorangi Street several years ago. It was a bold move at the time, coming in the middle of the economic downturn, a move many people would have feared to take on. They must have been visionaries because New World Supermarket is following suit.

Richard has never been averse to hard work and putting in long hours. No time was lost in the fit out of the interior for showroom and workshop areas to create the expansive layout that is approximately 650m2. The couple’s foresight has paid dividends. The location, which experiences a massive vehicular traffic count, is a huge advantage as is the site’s accessibility.

‘‘The re-location and subsequent development has allowed us to continue growing the business at a steady pace. We now have four divisions to the business, and this diversification has been the key to our success, ‘‘ says Richard.

The four divisions are made up of the Stihl Outdoor power tools dealership including motor mowers, cycles, home heating and hire shop. The range of cycles includes Raleigh for the family market, Avanti and Scott for the more serious riders.

‘‘Ross Murray has joined our team. He has a wealth of cycle knowledge, specialising in mountain bikes. Ross has been riding many trails around New Zealand for many years and is able to advise on the best bikes to suit the needs of each rider.’’

Richard is a qualified motorcycle mechanic and having the workshop to maintain and repair all small machinery and cycles is an important part of the business.

The home-heating division supplies leading brands such as Firenzo and Kent.

‘‘The fourth division of our business is providing quality hire gear to the tradesman and home handyman, ‘‘ says Richard.

The workshop complements the hire division as well. The impressive list of hire gear includes chainsaws, compactors, lawn mowers, scaffolding, trailers and floats, water blasters, trimmers, heaters, concrete tools and log splitters. Visit the hire shop website www.hireshopfeilding.co.nz for further information.

‘‘We pride ourselves on the high level of maintenance of our hire equipment, and providing quality servicing to small machinery of all makes and models.’’

Stihl Shop is the Walker Mowers dealership.

‘‘We have more than doubled the company turnover since moving to the new site. The key factor has been looking for and realising new opportunitiesAs well as servicing Feilding and Manawatu we have customers from Wairarapa, Horowhenua, Hawke’s Bay,Rangitikei and even further afield.’’
