Exciting year ahead for young dancers
Dance Unlimited’s teaching staff boasts international and professional experience from around the world, and right here in the Manawatu!
It’s the diversity that these teachers bring that is so special. The focus of this dance school is to inspire young dancers in a caring and professional environment – a key to developing confidence and enjoyment of dance, and develop dancers of the future who will have the opportunities within Dance Unlimited to venture to full-time training locally and internationally.
The Palmerston North team comprises of Monique Mai (ballet), Sinead Keaskin (modern, ballet and tap), Leah Viles (AJDA jazz), and newly returned home from her professional dance career is Rose Barnett. Both Monique and Rose were previously trained in Palmerston North by Gwenda Britten, now an international ISTD dance examiner. Rose has been away for around eight years, training fulltime in Sydney at Ecole Classical and EDC International, before progressing her dance career. Since 2012, she has worked as a dancer on the Princess Line Cruise ships throughout Europe and the Mediterranean, and was promoted to assistant company performance manager on the flagship the Regal Princess.
An exciting new addition to the curriculum in 2017 is Ready Set Dance. This is a new programme for two, three, four and five year olds. This is an hour combo class that includes jazz, tap, hip hop, singing, music and a whole lot of FUN for girls and boys. The kids just love it – and Dance Unlimited believes it’s the most advanced complete programme that is available – and its designed for ‘todays’ kids.
Along side this Dance Unlimited is also running Brightstar Ballet for four and five year olds – and this is a great progression from Ready Set Dance with ballet as its focus, as well as Movers and Groovers for five to seven year olds – a jazz/ hiphop/funk mix. Both programmes cater for both boys and girls. All the usual genres are offered – ballet, jazz, tap, modern, hip hop and contemporary – and to top it off Palmerston North students can also learn acrobatics with Rose.
Dance Unlimited is looking forward to an exciting year ahead. They have studios in Feilding and Marton, with the Palmerston North main studio is at 96 Princess St. Dance Unlimited also have has classes in Kelvin Grove.
Diversity is the focus at Dance Unlimited to help develop confidence and an enjoyment of dance.
