Fox, Houstounto tour

New Zealand’s pre-eminent musicians Rodger Fox and Michael Houstoun are coming together at The Globe on April 22 and 23 to present another unique and musically ground-breaking event.

The first Houstoun/Fox concert series in 2015 was so popular that the standing ovations persuaded the musicians to plan another tour this year.

‘‘This is another concert crafted especially for piano and big band. It’s a total creation for ourselves,’’ Rodger Fox says. ‘‘For too long there’s been a divide between the genres of classical and jazz. We’re now addressing that and pushing the boundaries in music.’’

The programme will include music from Prokofiev and Bach with three arrangements and compositions from internationally acclaimed jazz composer and arranger, Bill Cunliffe.

The idea for the first concert came by chance when both Michael and Rodger were playing separate gigs in Christchurch three years ago. They had an impromptu meeting and decided to keep in email and phone contact. They quickly realised they were on the same musical page and arranged their first innovative concert the following year. They’re still on the same page and have agreed to a five centre tour in April/ Mayculminating in Wellington on May 11.
