Globe Awards night

Last year was an exciting one for the Globe Awards.

In Palmerston North’s version of the glittering Oscars, BAFTAs and all the other celebrations, 26 productions were viewed by a panel of adjudicators for the 2016 Globe Awards.

Long-standing theatre groups and newer theatre companies represented each of these amateur community theatre productions and all exuded a love of theatre.

The productions ranged from large cast musicals and plays to the most intimate of settings with only a small cast.

Convenor of the panel of adjudicators, Sheridan Hickey, described the role of the adjudicators as appreciating the immediacy of a live theatre experience. ‘‘Theatre is immediate and, given the wide range of genre and style of the 26 productions viewed, our criteria includes the various aspects of design and concept, direction and acting as well as the overall impression,’’ Sheridan says.

The adjudicators also looked for innovation and creative thinking and the best moments in the storytelling art form of theatre.

The finalists in the respective categories will be announced closer to the date.

Tickets can be purchased from the Globe Theatre.
