FROM THE EDITOR

The Tribune (NZ) - - YOUR PAPER, YOUR PLACE -

One would assume the point of street lights is to provide safe streets at night for those walking and driving.

So it is concerning to hear feedback that the new LED lights being installed in our city streets are making things darker and residents are feeling unsafe.

I understand the need to update technology and there’s no denying that the 59 per cent reduction in electricity usage and $400,000 of annual savings is positive for our town.

Perhaps they will consider adding more light poles in the darker areas as they continue to update the lighting around the city, and the rest of the country.

The temperature seems to have taken quite a turn this week with a fresh chill in the air.

I hope you’re all keeping warm and remember to check on your neighbours as winter creeps up on us.
