The Tribune (NZ) - - YOUR PAPER, YOUR PLACE - - Lisa Houston

The rejuvenation of Tui Park in Palmerston North to a bright and vibrant family park is something all those living in the community can be proud of.

The park beside the Highbury Ave shops has long been a place with a tense, uninviting atmosphere subjected to graffiti and petty crime.

But now it’s been transformed, by the community itself, into a place where children and families can feel safe and welcome, which is a much stronger reflection of the community and its residents.

Community leaders in Highbury have been working hard over the past 10 years or more to change the negative stigma around living in the Palmerston North suburb and it’s projects like this that help them in that pursuit.

It’s good to see the council support such projects and I’m sure there’s other areas around town that could benefit from similar attention.
