The Tribune (NZ) - - NEWS -

The residents of Ashhurst are having a hard time of it and with the latest announcement about the Manawatu Gorge it’s not likely to let up any time soon.

The New Zealand Transport Agency announced on Friday that the Manawatu Gorge will be closed indefinitely because of safety risks.

This means traffic will continue to be diverted through Ashhurst to the Saddle Rd and understandably some residents are not happy.

It seems that the main road through the town towards the Saddle Rd is not built for the heavy traffic that it has been experiencing.

Residents believe the road has not been taken care of and is already showing signs of wear and tear.

Hopefully NZTA will make an effort to keep this road well maintained and safe as they consider further options for repairing the gorge road so Ashhurst doesn’t bear the brunt of the closure for too long.
