Driving for Hospice.
Once a year the Classic Car Breakfast Club make one of their drives an extra special Hospice run, collecting for the Arohanui Hospice from their winter wish list. This year was no exception, with a wide variety of items being donated. With winter well and truly upon us and the Gorge road closed, we decided to ticky tour around some of the city streets before heading out and winding or way to Feilding where we all stopped under a small amount of cover for a catch up and have a pavement chat. From here it was winding our way out the back of Feilding, onto Makino Road, up to Waituna West then down to Cheltenham, Almadale, Colyton, Taonui and back into Palmerston North to The Verdict Café for breakfast. By this time everyone was feeling a little cold, and ready for a hot breakfast, which The Verdict do so well. It was pleasant to just sit in warm surroundings and catch up on everyone’s news from when we last saw them on the months drive prior. We are a friendly bunch of likeminded people, so we always have something in common to talk about. If not cars then the weather, (but not the rugby). It’s on mornings like this that I don’t complain about not having air-conditioning or heating in the classic car, as the big exhaust pipe runs right under my feet to keep me warm. Mind you some of the navigators have been known to come wrapped in a cosy rug or have a hot-water bottle on their knee. The lucky prizes were drawn and once again we thank those who sponsor great gifts for the CCBC. For almost 10 years now we have had wonderful sponsorship each month from Konica Minolta, who have printed off our maps and instructions which we hand out to participants in return for their cans of food for charity. Konica Minolta are no longer able to participate in sponsorship, so again we thank them very much for their fantastic support over this time. The car of the month was Alan’s yellow Fiat 125T, which was proudly on display at registration. Classic Car Breakfast Club participants generously made donations off the Arohanui Hospice Winter Wish List and this ranged from canned food, toiletries, gift vouchers, stationary, laundry requirements and the list just goes on. These items were later delivered to the Arohanui Hospice in Palmerston North. For further information on the Classic Car Breakfast Club, contact Geoff & Glenys Boyden on A/H 06 356 9667.
