FROM THE EDITOR

The Tribune (NZ) - - YOUR LOCAL NEWS -

I agree with Horizons chairman Bruce Gordon and his assertion the Government should have been more prepared for another large slip in the Manawatu Gorge.

It’s been five years since the last big slip and closure and promises were made to upgrade the alternative routes.

That’s been happening but not quickly enough and now we’ve found ourselves in a predicament yet again with substandard roads over the Pahiatua Track and Saddle Road.

I really hope this time they do come up with a suitable long-term option so this doesn’t happen every few years.

Our communities here and neighbours in Tararua will be suffering while the road is closed and the Government scrambles to fix something that could have been avoided had quicker action been taken.

On a lighter note, it’s great to see the result of the Lions supporters tour in Palmerston North has boosted our tourism economy.
