Our city residents are lagging behind the rest of the country when it comes to enrolling to vote, according to recent figures from the Electoral Commission.

We’ve only got 83.1 per cent enrolled, compared to the national average of 87.5 per cent.

Our story on Page 5 also mentions there’s only just more than 50 per cent of our 18 to 24 age group enrolled.

The election campaigns have started in full force, along with the campaign to get voters to enrol and to vote.

Not only do we all have a responsibility to vote, if we can, but we should all be making an effort to encourage our young people to get involved as well.

In other news, happy birthday to our wonderful community group Palmy Rocks, which is celebrating its first birthday.

It feels like the fun initiative has been around a lot longer.
