Sewing Seams has topteam

The Tribune (NZ) - - TERRACE END -

It’s almost a year since Rhoda Green established Sewing Seams Clothing Alterations in Palmerston North’s Terrace End.

Rhoda had been working at Sue’s Repairs and was given the opportunity to buy the business, which she jumped at.

Rhoda and her four staff - Gaye, Gina, Monique and Naomi - are passionate about sewing and all have different skills to help you in altering, repairing, tailoring, remodelling or creating soft furnishings and dressmaking.

‘‘We care about your needs and we care about the quality of the job and customer satisfaction, if you’re not happy please feel free to bring it back. We only ever offer the best advice and solutions to alter your clothing so you will look fantastic.’’

Sewing Seams also offers $15 trouser hemming which can be done within the half hour.

Rhoda has more than 20 years’ experience in the clothing industry in New Zealand and Australia. She worked for Sue at the shop in Palmerston North before spending 11 years in Queensland working in various clothing factories. She then worked with two designers making clothing samples and then went back to doing alterations on the Gold Coast, working on designer garments before returning to New Zealand to began working at Sue’s Repairs again.

Rhoda has a passion for remodelling and restyling clothing.

‘‘I love it when someone brings in an old wardrobe favourite and wants it revamped. Always look in your wardrobe before buying new. It’s a big part of the work we all do everyday. We are also seeing an increase in clothes that have been bought on-line, particularly wedding dresses.’’

With wedding season approaching Rhoda says there are couple of things to consider.

‘‘If a bride to be wants to buy her wedding gown and bridesmaid dresses online we can help and make sure you are getting the closest size for your body shape. We are familiar with many of the websites and can take accurate measurements to ensure the gown fits well. We do see women buying too small which leaves no room to let out which can be devastating.’’

Sewing Seams can do a group booking after hours if needed.

‘‘Please call to book in your wedding attire so we can give you the time you need with your dresses.

‘‘We have a special for all bridal parties needing our services - a $50 voucher for all wedding alterations over $200 or more with us, just call in for your voucher.’’

‘‘Sewing Seams can deliver your items back to your home or work, just let us know when you drop off.’’

Hours are 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 12pm Saturday.
