2. BRUSHING UP BERRYMAN’S
Beats, Bites & Brushes in Berryman’s Lane is back with seven more murals to be painted on Saturday.
Berryman’s Lane, the Palmerston North alleyway connecting Broadway with Main St, is about to get brushed up some more.
In June, the Broadway end of the service lane hosted Beats, Bites & Brushes, a festival of art, food, fun and music that resulted in eight murals being painted down one side of the alley.
Now 220 square metres of wall at the Main St end is about to get the same treatment.
City Council planner Keegan Aplin-Thane has organised seven large wall areas across from The Daily bar for Beats, Bites & Brushes in Berryman’s Lane Part II on Saturday.
Taking part in the mass mural splurge will be artists from Auckland, Wellington, Whanganui and Palmerston North.
‘‘Beats, Bites & Brushes has created so much interest among artists wanting to be part of our mural story,’’ Aplin-Thane said.
Local artist Melanie Christmas, painter of Te Manawa Museum’s Church St mural, will contribute one of the panels.
Three of the artists - Adore, Gasp and Haser are from Auckland, Mike Marsh and Elijah Lamont aka Spaciousmind, are from Whanganui and Izzy Fuego is from Wellington.
Lighting for the new artworks had been installed so on Saturday the artists would be able to work well into the evening, with Sunday for finishing off.
