The Manawatu¯ Golf Club has raised con­cerns about the new sub­di­vi­sion plans in Hokowhitu, which will in­clude hous­ing along­side the course and the pos­si­ble need to re­design their course.

The pro­posal for the for­mer Massey Univer­sity Hokowhitu cam­pus is to sub­di­vide the land to cre­ate sec­tions for up to 130 houses be­tween Cen­ten­nial Dr and the Manawatu¯ River.

The club has con­tin­u­ously re­jected the pro­posal and its lawyer says it should be thrown out. They’re wor­ried about com­plaints of stray golf balls and the po­ten­tial for re­quests to trim trees on their prop­erty that block sun­light to the homes.

The de­vel­op­ers have at­tempted to work with the club to ad­dress their is­sues so it seems to me the golf club is be­ing un­nec­es­sar­ily dif­fi­cult in hold­ing up a pro­posal that could well ben­e­fit their club and its mem­bers with a wel­come ad­di­tion of hous­ing to the sub­urb.
