The Manawatu¯ Golf Club has raised concerns about the new subdivision plans in Hokowhitu, which will include housing alongside the course and the possible need to redesign their course.
The proposal for the former Massey University Hokowhitu campus is to subdivide the land to create sections for up to 130 houses between Centennial Dr and the Manawatu¯ River.
The club has continuously rejected the proposal and its lawyer says it should be thrown out. They’re worried about complaints of stray golf balls and the potential for requests to trim trees on their property that block sunlight to the homes.
The developers have attempted to work with the club to address their issues so it seems to me the golf club is being unnecessarily difficult in holding up a proposal that could well benefit their club and its members with a welcome addition of housing to the suburb.
