The TV Guide

EDITOR’S LETTER

- With TV Guide Editor Julie Eley julie.eley@fairfaxmedia.co.nz

I went to the zoo last week. Nothing unusual about that you might think but the last time I visited was 25 years ago. On that occasion I was in charge of a primary school party. The day before I had been asked to concentrate on ungulates. Determined not to show my ignorance, I said, ‘No problem’ and promptly headed to the library (we didn’t have Google back then) to find out what they were. In case, like me, you don’t know, they are animals with hooves. I checked out quite a few of them last week along with every furry, feathered creature and creepy crawly on show. The whole visit made me think, wouldn’t it be nice to see a return of the home-grown TV series The Zoo? True, the inmates might not have the killer instincts and poisonous nature of the contestants on some reality shows, but for quality TV it was hard to beat.
