I once read that dogs leave paw prints on your heart. I’m not sure about that but they certainly leave them on your carpets, floors and bed covers. I don’t know which is worse – summer which means the house is full of sand from the beach or winter when our dog turns into a happy mud monster who joyfully bounces on the bed after rolling in the quagmire our lawn becomes this time of the year. For the first few months of her life, our springer spaniel Ruby was terrified of water. We coaxed her into the sea, taught her rivers were not to be feared and introduced her to the joys of retrieving sticks from ponds. And what a mistake that was! While friends’ dogs are always clean and dry, Ruby is wet, dirty and smells like a swamp donkey. Am I the only one whose pet is causing them to tear their fur, sorry hair, out?
