Crocodile Dundee TVNZ 2, 7.30pm

Starring Paul Hogan, Linda Kozlowski. Who could resist the sight of Mick J. ‘Crocodile’ Dundee showing a cocaine addict how to really get a buzz at a flash New York party? Or his puzzlement when confronted with a bidet? It’s good old-fashioned entertainment time in this surprise hit that, in its time, blasted Hollywood movie records into outer space. Hogan’s brash Oz charm is appealing and the screen romance with Linda Kozlowski is nicely played. ★★★★

Rings Sky Premiere, 8.30pm Starring Matilda Lutz, Alex Roe. Psychological thriller centring around a supernatural videotape which curses everybody who watches it. The story is hazy and lacks a narrative thread, but is salvaged by a strong ending. It was the third in a series and those who have seen the other two may have a better idea of what is going on. ★★

Jaws M ori TV, 8.30pm Starring Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss. Da-dum. Da-dum. Dadum, da-dum, da-dum, da-dum, DUM, DUM … Perhaps one of the most recognisable pieces of movie music ever, John Williams’ Oscar-winning score was just one of the many factors that made Steven Spielberg’s 1975 mega-hit Jaws so popular, they coined a new term for it – the blockbuster. The first movie to reach the $100 million mark at the box office, it pulled in an estimated 128 million viewers worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film of all time until it was toppled two years later by Star Wars. Four decades on, Jaws still delivers the goods – testimony to the talent with which it was made and the terror it continues to strike into movie fans. ★★★★★

Coming To America Bravo, 8.30pm Starring Eddie Murphy. Murphy and real-life pal Arsenio Hall team up in this slick production about an incognito African prince who wants an American bride. Watch out for some surprise cameos. ★★★

Lethal Weapon 3 TVNZ 2, 9.30pm

Starring Mel Gibson, Danny Glover. The entertaining banter that drove the previous two instalments is still alive and well between the leads, although there is less hard-edged action this time around. Joe Pesci returns as additional comic relief, joining old cop Danny Glover and crazy cop Mel Gibson in taking on bad cop Stuart Wilson. Rene Russo also appears, adding a woman’s touch to the series. ★★★
