Elba relives his past

The TV Guide - - CLASSIC MARY BERRY -

Idris Elba (Luther) steps back in time for In The Long Run, an 80s-themed sitcom inspired by his childhood. Set in London, the storyline revolves around working-class immigrant couple Walter (Elba) and Agnes (Madeline Appiah), their asthmatic son Kobna (Sammy Kamara) and Walter’s charming but immature brother Valentine (Jimmy Akingbola). Comedian Bill Bailey (Black Books) appears as Walter’s upstairs neighbour and factory worker colleague, Bagpipes. The show was created by Elba and the character of Walter is based on his father. Fans of 80s pop music will no doubt enjoy the soundtrack and it’s wonderful to see Elba, who usually takes on more serious roles, in a comedy. Streams on TVNZ OnDemand.
