Relentless burden of motherhood
The frustrations of combining parenting with a career are laid bare in Motherland,a comedy about a group of competitive middle-class London women whose children attend the same school. Anna Maxwell Martin (above, The Bletchley Circle) is excellent as Julia, a stressed single mother and events manager who doesn’t like waiting for anyone or anything. When she is not trying to impress her boss and the other school mums, she’s worrying about childcare arrangements and how to make the perfect Minions birthday cake. Thankfully, Julia’s potty-mouthed friend Liz (Diane Morgan) and their irritating stay-at-home dad pal Kevin (Paul Ready) are there to keep Julia in check. Streams on Neon.
