Former reality star Nicole Richie is surprisingly good as a smug social-media-savvy TV presenter in Great News, a comedy series set in a newsroom. Richie’s character Portia hosts a daily news show called The Breakdown alongside her older male counterpart Chuck (John Michael Higgins). It turns out Portia and Chuck, who have nothing in common, can’t stand each other. The pair are forced to attend a meeting to discuss possible subject matter for on-camera banter. Meanwhile, the show’s producer Katie (Briga Heelan), who secretly fancies the show’s executive producer Greg (Adam Campbell), must work alongside her bossy mother Carol who has just been hired as an intern. Carol is played by Andrea Martin who viewers may recognise as Aunt Voula in the film My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Great News was created by Tracey Wigfield, one of the writers on the hit Mindy Kaling comedy The Mindy Project. Wigfield has a supporting role on Great News as a weather presenter. Look out for actress and comedian Tina Fey, who appears in the second season as news executive Diana St Tropez. If you enjoyed shows like 30 Rock, Parks And Recreation and The Mindy Project, then Great News should be right up your alley. Streams on Netflix.
