Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2 Sky Premiere, 8.30pm Starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana. In this top-notch sequel, Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Baby Groot are back in galactic action. The characters aren’t so quirky the second time around, but spectacular visuals, a strong narrative, lots of action and clever humour get it up into the stratosphere again. ★★★★

Captain America: The Winter Soldier TVNZ 2, 8.30pm

Starring Chris Evans, Robert Redford. Evans does his duty as everyone’s favourite American – Captain America – in a movie that has a more adult feel than much of Marvel’s past fare. ★★★★

Star Trek: Generations M ori TV, 8.30pm Starring Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes. Contrived but watchable adventure launching the cast of TV’s Star Trek: The Next Generation on to the big screen. The two most famous captains of the USS Enterprise encounter alien baddie Dr Tolian Soran (Malcolm McDowell), who is destroying civilisations for his own selfish ends. ★★★

Evolution TVNZ Duke, 8.30pm

Starring David Duchovny, Orlando Jones. A meteor lands on Earth carrying alien spores that rapidly evolve into various rampaging Men In Black-style creatures. David Duchovny, Orlando Jones and Seann William Scott play the stooge-like trio who are the only ones standing between the aliens and world domination, while Julianne Moore is inexplicably cast as a pratfalling epidemiologist and love interest for Duchovny’s disgraced scientist. ★★

Twister Bravo, 8.30pm Starring Helen Hunt, Bill Paxton. Special effects-laden blockbuster chronicling a day in the life of a team of storm chasers, who track tornadoes for a living. The adrenalin-pumping action sequences are, unfortunately, offset by a cliched plot involving efforts by Hunt and Paxton to save their ailing marriage. ★★★
