For­mer Air New Zealand chief ex­ec­u­tive Rob Fyfe has switched from head­ing a company fly­ing pas­sen­gers, to one pro­duc­ing merino ap­parel. Last year Mr Fyfe was ap­pointed chair­man of Ice­breaker, where Jeremy Moon was chief ex­ec­u­tive. But now the pair have switched roles with Mr Fyfe again in the chief ex­ec­u­tive’s seat. At a re­cent launch of their new re­tail store in Pon­sonby, Auck­land [ the 24th lo­ca­tion in Ice­breaker’s global net­work of re­tail stores] and the re­lo­ca­tion up­stairs of the Ice­breaker head of­fice from Wellington, Mr Fyfe said he was of­ten brought into turn around com­pa­nies that were not do­ing very well, but at Ice­breaker the company was al­ready do­ing well. “We are cur­rently turn­ing over $ 220 mil­lion and my role is to turn this into a half bil­lion dol­lar company,” he said. Asked to com­ment on Air New Zealand’s decision to scrap its fleet of 19- seat planes fly­ing to small re­gional cen­tres, Mr Fyfe said the planes were not los­ing money un­der his watch. He did add that the planes have been get­ting old and would re­quire high main­te­nance, but more im­por­tantly there was no one mak­ing planes of that size any more. HAWAI­IAN AIR­LINES has ap­pointed Gai Tyrrell as re­gional di­rec­tor – Aus­tralia and New Zealand, based in Syd­ney. In this newly- cre­ated po­si­tion, she will be re­spon­si­ble for over­see­ing all com­mer­cial ac­tiv­i­ties and prod­uct dis­tri­bu­tion in Aus­tralia and New Zealand mar­kets. Ms Tyrrell was pre­vi­ously chief ex­ec­u­tive at Sabre Pa­cific. THE PA­CIFIC ASIA TRAVEL ASS OCI­A­TION has a new chief ex­ec­u­tive. Mario Hardy has been pro­moted from the role chief op­er­a­tions of­fi­cer, a po­si­tion he has held since Jan­uary this year. WORLD AVI­A­TION SYS­TEMS has ap­pointed Gia Acitelli as re­gional gen­eral man­ager for Vir­gin At­lantic Air­ways. She was pre­vi­ously sales and mar­ket­ing man­ager for the air­line for Aus­tralia and New Zealand. This role will now be taken up by Alan Wil­cock, who has held the po­si­tion of sales and mar­ket­ing man­ager at Garuda In­done­sia Air­ways in New Zealand. THE LANGH AM AUCK­LAND has ap­pointed Max­ine Wal­lis as di­rec­tor of business de­vel­op­ment – meet­ings, in­cen­tives, con­fer­ences and events. She joins from Alexan­dra Park. In another ap­point­ment, Vic­to­ria Ste­wart has been ap­pointed spa man­ager at the ho­tel’s Chuan Spa. NANUKU RE­SORT & SPA FIJI has ap­pointed World Re­sorts of Dis­tinc­tion as its Aus­tralian and New Zealand sales rep­re­sen­ta­tive. The Queens­land- based rep­re­sen­ta­tive company will man­age the re­sort’s sales ac­tiv­ity un­der the guid­ance of sales man­ager An­gela Has­san. AMADEUS has ap­pointed Christian Lukey as re­gional di­rec­tor, of ho­tel dis­tri­bu­tion in Asia Pa­cific. He was pre­vi­ously com­mer­cial Di­rec­tor of Ho­tel Reser­va­tion Ser­vice, where he spear­headed the open­ing of the Sin­ga­pore of­fice. OUTRIGG ER has ap­pointed Paul Cut­ler as di­rec­tor of sales and mar­ket­ing for Outrig­ger on the La­goon, Fiji and Cast­away Is­land, Fiji. He will be based in the new Outrig­ger Syd­ney of­fice in Aus­tralia. His most re­cent po­si­tion was sales and mar­ket­ing man­ager for Fiji’s Nanuku Re­sort and Spa. TRAV­EL­PORT has ap­pointed Kay­lene Shut­tle­wood as gen­eral man­ager, Pa­cific. In her most re­cent role, she was the head of af­fil­i­ate net­work for Hel­loworld. In another ap­point­ment, Wendy Stan­ton has been ap­pointed com­mer­cial man­ager Trav­el­port, based in Auck­land. Pre­vi­ously she was gen­eral man­ager for whole­sale travel company Acrossia.
