Rugby stars feature at cup

-

Those who enjoy rubbing shoulders with rugby royalty are in for a treat at the Wellington Cup this Saturday.

The Hurricanes will be on course, as well as New Zealand Sevens coach Scott Waldrom.

The always popular Fashion in the Field will have a definite rugby theme via judges Hannah Laity and Hanna Tevita. Laity is Beauden Barrett’s girlfriend and and Tevita is with Nehe Milner-Skudder who will also be on course promoting his burger in a competition featuring Waldrom and Hayley Holt. Punters can vote for their favourite burger and the winning burger will be sold at the Wellington Sevens.

The holders of the Super Rugby trophy on Monday were pictured horsing around with Wellington’s other big sporting cup.

Hurricanes players Ardie Savea, front, Dane Coles, left at rear, and Brad Shieds got their hands on racing’s Wellington Cup on Monday as they confirmed their presence for Saturday’smeeting.

Savea said he and older brother Julian were well-known for their unique approaches to style. However, he has yet to pick an outfit to wear at Trentham. ‘‘I just like to wear what’s comfortable.’’

Shields, a flanker, admitted to having amore relaxed approach to his race day attire. ‘‘Whatever looks good, I just chuck it on,’’ he said.

Nor was he prepared to offer any tips to punters. ‘‘Just chuck a few bucks down on a few random horses, cross your fingers and hope for the best.’’
