Vehicle owners identified in Tolley case
The owners of two vehicles of interest to police investigating the homicide of Upper Hutt woman Lois Tolley have been identified.
Tolley, of Wallaceville, Upper Hutt, was killed minutes before midnight on December 9, stabbed and shot to death.
Police appealed for public help on Thursday to identify the owner of a white ute seen on Ward St. The owner has come forward and will be spoken to by detectives.
The owner of a silver vehicle shown in CCTV footage released earlier by police has also been identified, interviewed and eliminated from enquiries.
Detective Senior Sergeant Glenn Barnett thanked people who had come forward to the Operation Archer team.
On Thursday, Barnett had said the ute was parked in Ward St early on the morning on December 9, 2016, and was seen leaving the area just before midnight that same day, as well as driving past the scene around the time the killing was occurring.
A beanie and shoe were both found outside the scene, and police said on Thursday that they hoped members of the public would help identify the items.
A single jandal was also found within the crime scene.
Police have investigated the involvement of one or more women, as well as several men, in the killing, and repeatedly appealed to the public for information.
At least one of the men in the group that attacked Tolley appeared in the driveway afterwards in a frenzied state, reportedly yelling, ‘‘What have we done?’’

A neighbour said the gun involved was a homemade one. Police previously said only that it was a shotgun.
Police admitted descriptions of the four male suspects were still not detailed, but asked members of the public to help.
