The owners of two vehicles of interest to police investigating the homicide of Upper Hutt woman Lois Tolley have been identified.

Tolley, of Wallaceville, Upper Hutt, was killed minutes before midnight on December 9, stabbed and shot to death.

Police appealed for public help on Thursday to identify the owner of a white ute seen on Ward St. The owner has come forward and will be spoken to by detectives.

Detective Senior Sergeant Glenn Barnett thanked people who had come forward to the Operation Archer team.

On Thursday, Barnett had said the ute was parked in Ward St early on the morning on December 9, 2016, and was seen leaving the area just before midnight that same day, as well as driving past the scene around the time the killing was occurring.

A beanie and shoe were both found outside the scene, and police said on Thursday that they hoped members of the public would help identify the items.

A single jandal was also found within the crime scene.

Police have investigated the involvement of one or more women, as well as several men, in the killing, and repeatedly appealed to the public for information.

At least one of the men in the group that attacked Tolley appeared in the driveway afterwards in a frenzied state, reportedly yelling, ‘‘What have we done?’’

Earlier this month, several Wallaceville locals believed the suspects were ‘‘couch-surfing’’ and moving around different towns. Some voiced concerns as weeks passed without any arrests, but others were satisfied nobody else was at risk because the kill-
