One of my favourite parts of be­ing in­volved in com­mu­nity news in the re­gion is telling sto­ries that have a di­rect im­pact on peo­ple’s lives, the is­sues that af­fect us all or cel­e­brat­ing com­mu­nity he­roes.

Re­cy­cling and rub­bish have been head­lin­ing the news and in this week’s is­sue Ni­cholas Boy­ack heads off to a Hutt land­fill, which he de­clares to be a top tip. (P9).

We share in­ti­mate de­tails of a pho­to­shoot in Up­per Hutt, held to pro­mote body pos­i­tiv­ity (P10) and we con­tinue our se­ries on what to do and how to be pre­pared in an emer­gency. (P36)

We are also head­ing for the fi­nal count­down for the Round the Bays event on Fe­bru­ary 19.

This year I de­cided to get off the couch and have a go and I’ve been out pound­ing the streets in prepa­ra­tion as I know thou­sands of oth­ers have. As the big day nears, Rachel Grun­well shares tips on how to keep those nerves un­der con­trol. (P47)
