It was Upper Hutt like we have never seen it before.
The Royal Wellington Golf Club’s hosting of the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship was a magnificent event which put our city on the world stage.
Those of us with pay television were treated to a visual feast, with coverage of the four-day event taking every opportunity to show the Heretaunga golfing location off to the best advantage.
Drone footage of the club’s tree-lined links bordering the ‘‘magnificent Hutt River’’ were the order of each day’s coverage.
With the weather playing its part, long-distance shots north of an Upper Hutt regularly described as ‘‘a suburb of Wellington’’ featured, as did golden-hued images of Heretaunga and Silverstream.
There was even footage of two Hutt River fly-fishermen casting off just as three white horses were ridden south on the river trail adjacent to the club’s 15th tee. That couldn’t have been a setup, could it?
Anyway, the commentators told us they were enjoying their time in a uniquely beautiful area and they were right. This was a runaway success story.
