Prom­i­nent port­fo­lios for Hip­kins


Chris Hip­kins, the Rimu­taka MP, will take on the sev­eral im­por­tant port­fo­lios as a Labour cabi­net min­ster.

Hip­kins is Min­is­ter for Ed­u­ca­tion, State Ser­vices and Min­is­te­rial Ser­vices. He is also Leader of the House, re­spon­si­ble for the man­age­ment of gov­ern­ment busi­ness in Par­lia­ment.

The 39-yearold Hip­kins is be­gin­ning a fourth term in Par­lia­ment af­ter first be­ing elected in 2008.

The fi­nal tally for the Rimu­taka elec­torate shows Hip­kins re­ceived 21,725 votes, 8609 votes ahead of Na­tional’s Carolyn O’Fallon.

In the party vote for Rimu­taka, Labour earned 43.3 per cent (17,180 votes) to Na­tional’s 38.9 per cent (15,433). The can­di­dates’ re­sults from Rimu­taka, with 39,153 for­mal votes cast, were: Hip­kins (Labour) 21,725; O’Fallon (Na­tional) 13,116; Ste­fan GrandMeyer (Green) 1815; Talani Meikle (New Zealand First) 1604; Philip Lynch (Con­ser­va­tive) 356 and Grae O’Sul­li­van (ACT) 190.
