Prominent portfolios for Hipkins
Chris Hipkins, the Rimutaka MP, will take on the several important portfolios as a Labour cabinet minster.
Hipkins is Minister for Education, State Services and Ministerial Services. He is also Leader of the House, responsible for the management of government business in Parliament.
The 39-yearold Hipkins is beginning a fourth term in Parliament after first being elected in 2008.
The final tally for the Rimutaka electorate shows Hipkins received 21,725 votes, 8609 votes ahead of National’s Carolyn O’Fallon.
In the party vote for Rimutaka, Labour earned 43.3 per cent (17,180 votes) to National’s 38.9 per cent (15,433). The candidates’ results from Rimutaka, with 39,153 formal votes cast, were: Hipkins (Labour) 21,725; O’Fallon (National) 13,116; Stefan GrandMeyer (Green) 1815; Talani Meikle (New Zealand First) 1604; Philip Lynch (Conservative) 356 and Grae O’Sullivan (ACT) 190.
