Earthworks in a wetland on Sea View Road lastmonth did not require resource consent from Auckland Council. Although investigations are continuing, council manager of compliance for resource consents, Steve Pearce, said the earthworks undertaken were not in the protected Site of Ecological Significance on the property. The extent of the works was ’’below the threshold’’ of requiring consent. Two neighbours complained to the council about the earthworks, because of concerns the works could damage the wetland system.the council investigated noncomplying earthworks within the Site of Ecological Significance on the site in 2010, but consent was later granted. An abatement notice for earthworks in the protected area was issued in 2011, Pearce said.
