Woman falls from horse

A Waiheke woman fell from a horse and hit her head on the road in Onetangi on Friday.

Police attended the accident, which happened on The Strand at about midday.

‘‘It appears that she accidentally slipped out of her stirrups and somehow frightened the animal,’’ Sergeant Martin Felton said.

‘‘This caused the horse to take off, sprinting the length of The Strand. When it reached Seventh avenue, the rider came off and hit her head on the road. Thankfully she had the proper helmet on, but was taken by ambulance to hospital.’’

In the early hours of Sunday morning, two horses were also found roaming loose on The Causeway in Ostend. Police escorted them into nearby Goldie Estate and blocked them in.

On Sunday, Tahi Road residents phoned police about a local man driving around the industrial area on a track go cart.

‘‘He was so lucky not to have had any accident, as he had no safety equipment on at all,’’ Felton said.

‘‘He was caught and served with the appropriate documentation.’’
