Glamour for a good cause at Stonyridge
A night of glamour will be held at Stonyridge Vineyard on September 16 to raise money for Waiheke Health Trust and Rotary.
The health trust, which runs Ostend Medical centre and offers specialist and home care services, is excited about carrying out fundraising for the first time, trust board chairperson Maree Grbin said.
She hopes enough money will be raised that the trust can increase the number of days x-ray services are available on the island.
At present, the x-ray service only operates two to three days a week, so many patients have to travel to Auckland.
Up until now, the trust has offered a range of services funded through a contract with Auckland District Health Board, but annual fundraising could allow services to expand.
‘‘We would like to be able to broaden what we can offer people on Waiheke, because the aim is to have a healthy island,’’ Grbin said.
Waiheke Rotary member Nicola Hambly, who is helping organise the fundraiser, said guests will dress in cocktail party wear for a night of ’’amazing auctions’’ and dancing.
Local band Mojo Risers and DJ Gareth Ross will provide music.
‘‘There will probably be a few celebrities there - Stonyridge has invited its VIP list. This is a hundred bucks so you can have fun and give back to the community,’’ Hambly said.
Auctions will offer items such as a dinner for up to eight people at The Oyster Inn with Master of Wine Sam Harrop, and a dinner by chef Marco Edwardes with former All Black Coach Graham Henry.
Waiheke resident Danny Schuster, who has worked as a vintner internationally, has donated wines for the auctions.
Half of the money raised will go to the health trust and half to Waiheke Rotary, which supports a wide range of community projects and groups. These include funding tree planting by local schools, donating money to Waiheke Living Without Violence and Piritahi Marae, and providing food vouchers for families in need at Christmas.
Tickets for the event on September 16, from 7pm to midnight, are $100 and include a glass of wine and canapes - email firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 09 372 8822.
