Paradise re-made at Waiheke Islandresort
The facilities are made to be enjoyed by the Waiheke community as well as guests.
The sound of power tools over the Palm Beach hillside will soon fall silent, signalling the start of a new beginning for Waiheke Island Resort.
The long-running resort has undergone massive renovations over the past two or three years, building up its facilities to compete with the very best – and it’s right here in our own backyard!
If you’re expecting all huts and hot tubs though, think again. As Parke Mackay of Waiheke Island Resort tells us, the soon-to-becompleted renovations have been designed with all in mind.
‘‘It’s an exciting time for the resort, we’re highly motivated to welcome guests and locals alike to come enjoy the facilities.’’
Due to be fully finished by December, the renovation will include newly-appointed accommodation, allowing the resort to house up to 80 guests at any given time. It will also launch three brand new conference areas, as well as re-open some old favourites.
From the fully-renovated Waiheke Room function venue to the on-site restaurant, aptly renamed The Palm Beach Bistro, which will showcase a menu sourced largely from the island (think line-caught market fish, Te Matuku oysters and awardwinning wines and olive oil), the facilities are made to be enjoyed by the Waiheke community as well as guests.
Palm Beach Bistro’s takeaway menu is sure to become a local favourite: simply order and pick up at the poolside bar and walk down to the beautiful Palm Beach to enjoy. Guests and residents can even phone the resort for a ride back up the hill in the courtesy van.
Parke says the renovations are ‘‘just the beginning’’ and he’s got big plans for the summer for both resort guests and the community.
