Socialising can be a hard art to master, but there’s one place where it couldn’t be easier: the Waiheke RSA.

Home of good times for island veterans and residents since 1993, the clubrooms at 29 Belgium Street have seen many friendships made over the years, with the full schedule of activities for members and guests sure to get the talk, laughter and fun flowing.

This month, there’s the All Blacks vs South Africa game on September 16; plus the Auckland Delta Band performing on September 22.

If you want to try a few tunes yourself, don’t miss the Karaoke Night this Friday.

On September 15, the RSA will also host a Battle of the Somme remembrance ceremony at the Waiheke Cemetery at 11am. All welcome.

On a lighter note, make sure to mark October 7 on your calendars, when the RSA will be rocked by a live entertainment show featuring professional New Zealand entertainers Leon and Rewa. The entertainment starts at 7.30pm, tickets $20.

Your days are sure to be as full as your nights at Waiheke RSA, where there’s regular events such as Housie on Thursdays at 10am, Dementia Group on Wednesday mornings at 10am, poker nights on Monday from 6.30pm ($20 buy-in) and Quiz Nights on Tuesday evenings.

Both the poker players and the quiz teams are looking for new members to join in the fun and take on the regulars, so grab your friends or family and head along!

If you’ve never been to the RSA before, why not give it a try?

The community-based facility provides a respectful, safe place to enjoy yourself and socialise – and as RSA secretary manager Brendan Demchy explains, isn’t just for veterans.

‘‘Just because we’re an RSA doesn’t mean we stop people coming in – we welcome everyone over 18 to join and gather the benefits of membership.’’

The RSA prides itself on being a familyfriendly establishment, with the attached Red Poppy Restaurant also catering for families by offering quality meals at a great price. ❚ Waiheke RSA, 29 Belgium Street, Ostend. Open seven days from 11am, with restaurant hours noon-2.30pm for lunch (Tuesday to Saturday) and 5.30pm-9pm for dinner (Tuesday to Sunday).
