Palmbeachbistro: Atasteofwaiheke

Waiheke Marketplace - - Out & About -

Whether you prefer your food on elegant dine-in platters or wrapped in paper down on the beach, there’s only one place to go.

Introducing Palm Beach Bar & Bistro, Waiheke’s newest eatery. Opening just three weeks ago inside the Waiheke Island Resort reception area, the Bar & Bistro isn’t just Palm Beach’s only licensed restaurant, but an experience in itself.

While the resort formerly had some food options for guests, manager Parke Mackay says this is something completely different: a fully-formed eatery that caters to locals as much as it does to those visiting.

Looking around, it’s clear all 16 years of his experience as a restauranteur and resort manager has gone into crafting the absolute best. Think balcony breakfasts, a` la carte lunches, poolside dinners and takeaways you can carry down to the beach – all making this no ordinary restaurant.

Then there’s the food itself: a selection of Waiheke’s finest local produce focused on freshness, quality and value for money.

Try the 250 gram rib eye steak with rocket salad and garlic lemon butter (a steal at only $34) or the delicious beetroot and halloumi salad for $16; or keep an eye on the ever-changing menu for the completely unique chef’s specials.

‘‘We want locals to come up and be surprised every time they come,’’ Parke says.

For those wanting to explore, Parke invites all locals up to the resort to tour the facilities. Not only would the friendly team love to show you around, but mention this editorial and the coffee’s on them!

It’s just one of the ways the Bar & Bistro aims to connect with the surrounding community, from utilising Waiheke-grown foods and wines to offering up their venue for Christmas parties and functions.

‘‘By endorsing local products and customs, we’re edifying what it is to be Waihekean – anything which is good for the Island is good for us all.’’

The Bar & Bistro is just the first of what’s to come at the Waiheke Island Resort, with Parke saying he plans to launch another community-based activity in a month’s time. Stay tuned for details!
