FROM THE EDITOR

Waiheke Marketplace - - Front Page -

There’s always been something rather special about the island’s garden safari, apart from the lovely gardens.

And that’s the people involved with hosting and running the event.

It’s a shame the Art in the Garden and Sundowner evening events were cancelled.

But there were six private gardens open to the garden festival ticket holders which were splendid.

They were all different, with their own unique qualities, but what made my tour around them so enjoyable on Saturday were the hosts and volunteers.

Right from the welcome at the first garden in Korora Rd to the volunteers and hosts in Man O’ War Rd, there wasn’t a moment when I didn’t feel as if I was on holiday.

And that seemed to apply to people visiting the gardens as well.

I don’t think I’ve ever had so many strangers greeting me in one day.

It was delightful and would be a good way to treat our tourists.
