There’s al­ways been some­thing rather spe­cial about the is­land’s gar­den sa­fari, apart from the lovely gar­dens.

And that’s the peo­ple in­volved with host­ing and run­ning the event.

It’s a shame the Art in the Gar­den and Sun­downer evening events were can­celled.

But there were six pri­vate gar­dens open to the gar­den fes­ti­val ticket hold­ers which were splen­did.

They were all dif­fer­ent, with their own unique qual­i­ties, but what made my tour around them so en­joy­able on Satur­day were the hosts and vol­un­teers.

Right from the wel­come at the first gar­den in Korora Rd to the vol­un­teers and hosts in Man O’ War Rd, there wasn’t a mo­ment when I didn’t feel as if I was on hol­i­day.

And that seemed to ap­ply to peo­ple visit­ing the gar­dens as well.

I don’t think I’ve ever had so many strangers greet­ing me in one day.

It was de­light­ful and would be a good way to treat our tourists.
