Take a step BACK IN TIME
Be prepared to step into an earlier era with the Op Shop Ball coming up next month. Members of the committee (pictured from left) Rob Hope, Sue Allen, John Allen and Kelly Moselen have already sorted out their Steampunk outfits. What about you?
It is less than two months until the annual Op Shop Ball, and tickets are selling fast.
Preparations are now in full swing for the annual Waihi Beach Events and Promotions ball, hailed as the mid-winter social event of the year.
The ball is on Saturday, July 7 at the Waihi Beach Community Centre.
This year’s theme, Steampunk is likely to inspire weird and wonderful creations from the simple to the bizarre.
What is Steampunk? It’s a celebration of the Victorian era, fashion and innovative old world machinery mixed with a touch of science fiction and fantasy. In other words, anything goes. So get Op Shopping, start mix and matching, add a little bit of something quirky, old, rusty or mechanical and you’re ready to go.
Proceeds from the ball are returned to the community.
“It’s a perfect opportunity to get together with friends and work colleagues to support an evening renowned for its fun and entertainment,” the Op Shop Ball committee says.
Last year’s proceeds of the Bollywoodthemed ball were given to the CanSurf Charitable Trust, the Waihi Beach Community Hall and Waihi Beach Events and Promotions to help fund the Information Centre and future community events.
Athenree resident Tee Carroll of Event Clothing says she is also happy to help anyone put together an easy, affordable Steampunk outfit/ensemble.
Costumes and frocks can also be found at Waihi’s Underground Market — opposite to Mitre 10 — and several op shops around Waihi, Waihi Beach and Paeroa.
Contact Tee of Event Clothing on 021399076 or 07 8634363 to check some of her costumes.
