Big win over Melville

Waihi Leader - - News - By JAMES HEFFIELD

A hat-trick of goals from Vincent Fransham helped Waihi to a 6-0 win over Melville in their Waikato B league clash at Waihi College on Saturday.

Waihi dominated the match and repeatedly put Melville under pressure through breaks down both flanks.

Player-coach Richard James opened the scoring early in the first half with a beautifully placed shot into the top left corner.

He then added a second goal 10 minutes later when he scored from close range after some impressive passing interplay with fellow striker Aaron Parks. Waihi’s third goal came care of Fransham, who received a well-weighted through-ball from James before sprinting away from Melville’s chasing defenders and knocking it past the Melville keeper and into the goal.

Waihi’s half-time talk focused on keeping the intensity going, and the team responded well. Aodhan Balemi made an incisive run down the right flank mid-way through the half and delivered an inchperfect cross to Fransham, who headed it into the net in style.

Parks made it 5-0 late in the half when he hammered home a short pass from James, before Fransham finished off his hat-trick by beating the keeper at the near post with a powerful shot.

The win extends Waihi’s winning streak in the league to five games.

A victory against Claudelands Wally’s next weekend should mean Waihi move into first or second spot on the table.
