Record turnout for Waihi surf con­test

Waihi Beach’s surf­ing con­test was a suc­cess, or­gan­iser Ai­dan Com­rie said.

The Waihi Beach butcher Icey Meat chal­lenge took place on Sun­day, Septem­ber 23 with a record turn out ac­cord­ing to or­gan­iser and Waihi Beach Board­rid­ers pres­i­dent, Ai­dan Com­rie.

Eighty surfers com­peted in sev­eral cat­e­gories with long­board, over 45, ju­nior, retro, SUP and an opens sec­tion.

Part of the third event of the Board­rid­ers se­ries, the chal­lenge was spon­sored by Waihi Beach butcher with all par­tic­i­pants en­ter­ing the draw to win half a lamb.
