Waihi Beach Board­rid­ers joined the 2018 Pri­mary School Cham­pi­onships in Gis­borne last week­end.

The two-day event took place at Mid­way Beach, in 1.0m waves that were ideal to chal­lenge New Zealand’s up and com­ing tal­ent.

Waihi Beach surfer Beau Fitzgib­bon com­peted in the Year 6 and un­der Boys Di­vi­sion Semi­fi­nals and placed sev­enth in his cat­e­gory next to Mace Har­ries (13) and Ryan Adams (20).

Other young surfers Ro­man Har­ries, Kaden Littlejohn and Zach Pullen en­tered the surf con­test in the Year 7 and 8 Boys Di­vi­sion and re­spec­tively placed 13th, 26th and 34th.

The club recorded a promis­ing per­for­mance from Piper Elm­sly scor­ing 18 and plac­ing fifth in the Year 6 girls and un­der Girls, fol­lowed by Indie Fitzgib­bon plac­ing eighth in the same cat­e­gory.
