Waihi Beach Boardriders joined the 2018 Primary School Championships in Gisborne last weekend.
The two-day event took place at Midway Beach, in 1.0m waves that were ideal to challenge New Zealand’s up and coming talent.
Waihi Beach surfer Beau Fitzgibbon competed in the Year 6 and under Boys Division Semifinals and placed seventh in his category next to Mace Harries (13) and Ryan Adams (20).
Other young surfers Roman Harries, Kaden Littlejohn and Zach Pullen entered the surf contest in the Year 7 and 8 Boys Division and respectively placed 13th, 26th and 34th.
The club recorded a promising performance from Piper Elmsly scoring 18 and placing fifth in the Year 6 girls and under Girls, followed by Indie Fitzgibbon placing eighth in the same category.
