Half marathon marks 15 years
This year’s Hamilton Half Marathon on September 30 celebrates 15 years with some special features, and there is still time to get your entry in with the earlybird special fees.
To mark the 15th anniversary a commemorative medal will be given to all finishers in the Half Marathon 10km and 5km events.
Also this year, major sponsor Direct Group Uniform will pay a bonus if any course records are broken.
The event has grown over the years and is now the Direct Group Uniforms Hamilton Half Marathon and 10k Mark Keesom Ray White Online Realty 5km, plus the Kindercare Kids Commando Challenge.
The event is a Hamilton institution open to all runners and walkers and is well known as the running festival where there is a distance for everyone.
It was first run in 2004 with the start/finish at Grantham Street. It later moved to Hamilton Gardens before finding its home now at Flagstaff Park where the event has been held since 2010. The Half Marathon course now takes in part of the Te Awa river trail.
The event was started by Lyn Harris who recognised a lot of other cities held a half marathon but not Hamilton. Lyn has organised the event ever since.
“We also raise money for a charity and this year our charity is again True Colours Children’s Health Trust,” she says.
