Lawyers preview Pora drama
Lawyers involved with Malcolm Rewa’s upcoming murder trial have been allowed to watch a TVNZ drama after concerns were raised it could impact on his court case. In Dark Places, a taxpayer-funded telefeature about Teina Pora’s miscarriage of justice, is to air later this month. Pora served more than 20 years for the murder of Susan Burdett, who was killed in her south Auckland home in 1993. In 2015, a miscarriage of justice was declared by the Privy Council and Pora was later freed. After his name was cleared, Crown Law said it was once again going to prosecute Rewa for Burdett’s murder. Rewa was previously found guilty of Burdett’s rape, but two juries found him not guilty of her murder.
