No more boiled water
After a day of boiling water, Matamata residents can drink straight from the tap again. Matamata residents were urged to boil their water after low chlorine levels were detected at some testing sites on Wednesday. Chlorine is added to most of New Zealand’s water supplies to kill any disease causing pathogens. But most of the Waikato town’s water is safe to use again, Matamata-Piako District Council said in a Facebook post. ‘‘We have received test results showing that the water is now safe to drink without boiling.’’ James and Everad Avenues are the only streets where a boil water notice is still in place. It lifts today at 3pm. Residents had been asked to boil any water used for food, drink, washing dishes and brushing teeth.
