Christmas barbies back on in NSW

Big backyard Christmas barbecues are back on the cards after the New South Wales state government eased a slew of Covid-19 restrictions.

Up to 50 people can now convene outdoors across NSW, while up to 30 people can gather indoors. All venues up to 200 square metres in size, including hospitality venues, will also be able to host one patron per two square metres.

Public health orders requiring employers to allow staff to work from home will end on December 14.

The change came after NSW recorded its 18th consecutive day of zero locally acquired Covid-19 cases.

The NSW-Queensland border has also reopened in time for summer. Access to Queensland for Victorians has also resumed.

Only Adelaide residents will have to quarantine for 14 days on arrival in Queensland.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk congratulated Victoria for following NSW in going 28 days without an unlinked case of coronavirus.

Tasmania will open its borders to Victoria tomorrow for the first time in more than eight months. After previously flagging a November 27 reopening, the island state confirmed that mandatory quarantine requirements for Victorian arrivals would end.
