11 events gain funds

Eleven com­mu­nity events are the first win­ners from a newly es­tab­lished Com­mu­nity Event Fund.

Waipa¯ Dis­trict Coun­cil es­tab­lished the $30,000 fund to sup­port grass-roots events which help build and cel­e­brate com­mu­nity pride and max­imise the dis­trict's pub­lic places. The fund is in ad­di­tion to the wellestab­lished Dis­trict Pro­mo­tion Fund which is aimed at events which drive eco­nomic ac­tiv­ity.

The first al­lo­ca­tions were made from the Com­mu­nity Event Fund last week.

The big­gest win­ners from the first al­lo­ca­tion were the Strag­glers Rod and Cus­tom Car Show, Cam­bridge Au­tumn Fes­ti­val, Cam­bridge Cy­cling Fes­ti­val and Waipa¯ Fun Fun, which all re­ceived $3000 each.

Piron­gia For­est Park Lodge 30th Cel­e­bra­tions re­ceived $2000, North Is­land Long Lap $1500, Cam­bridge Half Marathon, Cam­bridge Gar­den Fes­ti­val, Drome Masters Track Cy­cling Car­ni­val, Waikato Ulysses Child Can­cer Foun­da­tion Char­ity Ride $1000 each and Te Awa­mutu Per­form­ing Arts Fes­ti­val $500.
