Community invited to help create jungle
A paper jungle will soon sprout up at Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari and the community is invited to help build it.
The Jungle Within is a community arts project co-ordinated by artist Claudia Latisnere.
The paper jungle will be part of an art installation inside the Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari Visitor Centre.
“The concept behind The Jungle Within focuses on the things we would like to see growing within ourselves and within our community,” Claudia says.
“It’s about getting together and sharing our stories, stories about who we are and how we fit in the Waipa¯ .”
There will be several paper jungle-making workshops led by Claudia, which the community is invited to attend.
The patterns and the materials will be provided and entry is by optional ko¯ ha.
There are workshops at the Pukeatua Playcentre on Thursday, July 5 from 5-7pm and Saturday, July 21 from 11am-1pm.
There are also workshops at the Rosebank Art Centre on Thursday, July 12 from 11am-1pm and Thursday, July 26 from 11am1pm.
The jungle will be constructed in early August and opened in mid-August.
The project is supported by Creative New Zealand, Waipa¯ District Council and Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari.
