A tale of two sculptures. It was a joy to head out to Elaine Hurndell’s place last week and see the (almost) finished statue of Grace the angel of love. Elaine has put such passion into the project and created something so extraordinary that it is sure to find a valued place in Masterton’s community.

A life-sized angel in a reflection pool is not to everyone’s taste, but has there every been a public artwork that has met with universal acclaim? Which brings me to the second sculpture. Ascension.

Once again the product of a passionate few, but I would venture that they find their roots in a slightly different sector of society.

The shiny, floating Neil Dawson sculpture being installed in Masterton’s northern roundabout is going to be something special.

Instead of being grumpy about how much it cost, maybe its time to stand back and enjoy the view.

When these two sculptures are finally in place, Masterton will be a significantly more interesting place. - Piers Fuller An international lineup of musicians you will rarely get the chance to see again are playing at 4pm Sunday at 57 Wood Street, Greytown.
