Situated on Thames St between Ballantyne Showcase Jewellers and McDiarmid’s, new business Squeeze Juice and Health Bar has enjoyed a busy couple of opening weeks with customers thoroughly enjoying the fantastic range of fresh juices, smoothies, soups and salads available.

While manager and co-owner Lea Murphy had expected business to be steady, she was surprised at just how exceptional the response had been, which has further increased her belief that people were actively looking for ways to live a healthier and ultimately more satisfying lifestyle.

‘‘We had noticed that people’s awareness of their personal health and well-being was growing and the business is a way to contribute to that, particularly where time constraints and sourcing healthy, convenient food and drink options were concerned.

‘‘One of our main focuses as a business is to provide this option for workers in the CBD and the plan in the very near future is to set up a delivery service to workplaces in the CBD so that people have easy access to delicious, fresh and healthy food and drinks,’’ Lea explained.

Soups are made fresh daily on the premises with a beautiful range of flavours that alternate each day. Thai pumpkin, tomato and basil, and kumara and roasted garlic are just some of the mouth-watering options featured so far. Soup can be purchased with or without hearty and grainy bread rolls – what could be more tempting on a cold winters day?

A range of alternating salads are also made fresh daily and provide an ideal healthy lunch option. A firm favourite has been the moroccan cous cous salad, which has been made almost daily to keep up with demand. There are also other delicious choices such as tomato soulza and raw crunch as well as leafy green varieties, and your choice of balsamic or honey mustard vinaigrette if you require a dressing.

If you are looking for something sweet to finish your meal, or you are trying to avoid that three o’clock craving for a chocolate bar a scrumptious fruit salad is made daily and is the perfect sweet treat.

An extensive set menu of juice and smoothie flavours will set your tastebuds alight and the team are also happy to make up individual blends if requested.

Another area where Squeeze Juice and Health Bar hope to focus on in the future is school-aged children and encouraging healthy lifestyles and diets – even for fussy eaters.

‘‘It has been so nice to see lots of school kids coming in and choosing to enjoy healthier alternatives instead of options laden with high sugar, fat and salt content with little or no nutritional value, however there is more to be done and we can teach even the fussiest children that a drink full of vegetables and fruit can taste delicious,’’ said Lea.

All salads, soups and juices are dairy-free, gluten-free or vegan and smoothies can be made to order by request.

While set hours are yet to be confirmed according to demand, currently the Squeeze Juice and Health Bar is open from 8am5.30pm, Monday to Friday, and on Saturday from 9am-2pm.
