Network Waitaki: Returns a $2.07 million Discount to Consumers
Network Waitaki is North Otago’s electricity distribution company, covering the area from the Waitaki River to Shag Point, up the Waitaki Valley as far as Ohau and the Hakataramea Valley. There are 12,581 consumers connected to its network that will shortly be receiving discounts on their monthly electricity bills. Households and businesses that have been connected to the network for a full 12 months should receive a pay-out of $125.12 (GST included), or more, depending on which electricity price plan they are on. This year the total discount pool is $2.07 million (GST included). Network Waitaki is 100 per cent owned by the Waitaki Power Trust, a consumer trust for the benefit of electricity consumers in the Waitaki District. The discount has two components, namely: • a non-discretionary discount that was determined in December 2014, before the start of Network Waitaki’s 1-April-2015 to 31-March-2016 financial year, and •a discretionary discount, determined by Network Waitaki’s Directors in February 2016, that is dependent on market conditions and the company’s performance.
