Waitaki people unsatisfied with roading

Waitaki Herald - - YOUR LOCAL NEWS - RYAN DUNLOP

Roading has again been an issue that Waitaki residents are least satisfied with, an annual residents survey has revealed.

Meanwhile residents were generally satisfied with most of the councils services with similar results to the annual resident survey in 2016.

The survey prepared by Key Research, asked 400 residents about their satisfaction across council services.

According to the survey some 47 per cent of residents were satisfied with the councils sealed roading network, the Corriedale and Waihemo wards were the least satisfied both scoring 29 per cent satisfaction.

75 per cent of residents surveyed said poor condition and lack of maintenance were the top reason for dissatisfaction, followed by 51 per cent who said potholes and bumpy roads were the reason for their dissatisfaction.

Only 27 per cent of residents were satisfied with the unsealed roading network, with only 12 per cent of Waihemo residents satisfied. Policy and communications manager Mike Roesler said in his report to councillors the survey had been prepared different this year.

‘‘This year, 100 residents were surveyed each quarter, to build the full sample size.

‘‘The main reason for this change was to improve the reliability of the survey result..’’

Roesler wrote ‘‘Satisfaction with services and facilities has been maintained, there has been a drop in residents recognising that rates represent value for money.

‘‘Satisfaction levels with Council consultation with the community remains stable, albeit nearly half of the respondents either "didn't know" or were ambivalent about this activity.’’ Mike Roesler

This has an impact on over perceptions and reputation’’.

He noted that residents answering ‘‘I don’t know’’ had impacted results.

‘‘Satisfaction levels with Council consultation with the community remains stable, albeit nearly half of the respondents either ‘‘didn’t know’’ or were ambivalent about this activity.’’

Satisfaction across elected representatives, community boards were also affected in a similar way, he said in his report.

A recent survey shows only 47 per cent of residents are satisfied with Waitaki District Council’s sealed roading network.
