Rotorua Cyway complete

-

The remaining part of the Rotorua Cyway, the Utuhina shared path, was completed recently to improve access and safety for those with reduced mobility; create space for young families with prams, scooters or bikes; and provide space for people cycling to move about more freely.

The existing trail that wound its way alongside the Utuhina Stream received a facelift, with flat sections of the track resurfaced with tinted concrete and lime chip in the sections closest to the stream and magnificent redwood trees. Rotorua’s shared path network supports the district’s Urban Cycling Strategic Plan that aims to provide the community with safe and enjoyable riding facilities. Funding for the programme was shared between Rotorua Lakes Council, Government and Waka Kotahi.

The shared path network aims to connect people to where they want to go and promote biking as an attractive and convenient form of transport.
